External Post

2 min read

An External Post is a post you published directly in a platform's own app rather than through melabel, synced in so your analytics cover all your content.

An External Post is any post you publish directly inside a social platform's own app, such as posting a Reel from the Instagram app or uploading a video in TikTok, rather than scheduling it through melabel's Social Post. Most artists do both: planned announcements go through a scheduler, and spontaneous moments get posted on the spot.

If analytics only covered scheduled posts, you would be missing a big part of the picture. That is why External Posts are synced into melabel from your Connected Accounts, so they appear in Social Analytics next to everything you scheduled. Syncing runs on a regular cycle, so a post you just published natively may take a little while to show up. Some platforms also limit what data they share for certain account types, which can affect how much detail appears for these posts.

For example, an artist schedules release week announcements through Social Post, but also posts a spontaneous backstage clip from their phone. The next day, both appear in Social Analytics, and the unplanned clip turns out to have the highest share count of the week.

In melabel's Social Analytics, you can view all posts together or filter by source, making it easy to compare what you plan against what you post in the moment.
