Saves

2 min read

Saves count how many times people bookmarked a social post or added a track to their library, and are widely treated as a strong signal of genuine interest.

Saves mean two related things in music marketing. On social platforms like Instagram and TikTok, a save is when someone bookmarks a post so they can come back to it. On streaming services like Spotify, a save is when a listener adds a track or release to their library. In both cases, the person is telling the platform they want this again, which is a stronger signal than a like.

That intent is why saves carry weight. A like takes half a second and often happens on autopilot. A save means the content was useful, memorable or worth replaying. Saves are widely treated as a meaningful signal for how platforms decide what to show more people, although no platform publishes its exact ranking formula. Save rate, meaning saves divided by reach or by listeners, is the fairest way to compare content.

For example, a carousel breaking down the gear used on a new single might earn fewer likes than a performance clip but three times as many saves, because guitarists want to reference it later. That tells you educational content is building a returning audience.

melabel tracks saves in Social Analytics for supported platforms, and streaming saves in Music Analytics, so you can see whether content that earns social saves also lines up with more listeners saving the track.
