Engagement Rate
Engagement Rate is the share of people who interacted with a post, usually total engagements divided by reach or by follower count, shown as a percentage.
Engagement Rate turns raw interaction counts into a ratio. Where Engagement tells you how many likes, comments, shares and saves a post received, Engagement Rate tells you how many of those happened relative to the audience that could have engaged. It is usually shown as a percentage, which makes it the fairest way to compare posts, platforms and artists of different sizes.
There is no single industry formula. The most common versions divide total engagements by reach (people who saw the post), by impressions (total times it was shown), or by follower count. Reach-based rates are best for judging whether a piece of content resonated with the people it reached. Follower-based rates are better for judging how active your existing audience is. Because tools pick different formulas, two dashboards can show different rates for the same post without either being wrong.
For example, a post with 400 engagements and 10,000 reach has a 4% reach-based engagement rate. A post on a larger account with 2,000 engagements and 100,000 reach sits at 2%, even though the raw number is five times higher. The smaller post connected more strongly with its viewers.
melabel's Social Analytics shows Engagement Rate next to raw Engagement so you can see both scale and quality at a glance, and compare posts fairly across every connected platform.
